Winter Skincare Tips.

Who doesn’t love bed time?

Did you know that while we sleep and rest, this is when your skin starts working its hardest?  While you sleep your skin is busy renewing cells and recovering your skin from the day’s pollution and this is the perfect time to transform skin overnight by optimising night-time skin recovery.  Nothing will beat a full 8 hours but this is also the best time to layer on your products because the skin is warmer and more receptive to the products you apply.  However during sleep your body loses moisture and your cells need to maintain a certain amount of hydration to stay active so we recommend layering on your balms, serums or oils to lock in the moisture.  So get comfy in bed and get a good nights sleep and you are well on your way to brighter, better and healthier skin!

Our recommendation is Sound Sleep Cocoon by Dermalogica,  a moisturiser formulated specifically to reduce signs of skin fatigue and restore vitality while sleeping.  It is rich in antioxidant Vitamin C and is clinically shown to improve and brighten skin tone.  If you are a restless sleeper, motion activates the release of french lavender essential oil and sandalwood which soothes the senses promoting deep, restful sleep for healthier-looking skin.

Defend your skin, you will wear it for the rest of your life

You only get one skin and its your job to protect it from environmental assaults, like sunburn, windburn and pollution, all year long.  If you can only afford one product for your skin make it a moisturiser, for your skin type (this is important) with an SPF (sun protection factor) of 30 or 50.   SPF creates a shield to prevent UVB rays (the burning ones, mainly present during Summer months) and UVA rays (the ageing ones, always present) from reaching the skin and keep it safe from the harmful effects of UV radiation.  As the face is particularly susceptible to wrinkles and premature aging this is very important.  SPF all over the body is important but not necessary in the colder months as the skin is covered, however SPF30/50 for the face, neck, chest and hands is critical all year round.
